To all you dad’s out there. But especially to my remarkable dad. A man who is constantly reinventing himself to this day. Dad, your humor and intellect have impacted my life in a million different ways. Thanks for being you. And yes, that is my fabulous mother by his side. And yes, the flowered wallpaper in my childhood bedroom is hideous, I picked it when I was eight and didn’t realize I would have to deal with it when I was hungover at sixteen. But let us not dwell on my ill advised interior decorating skills, or the fact that there’s a very good chance there’s a Crystal Gayle album sitting underneath that stereo. It’s Father’s Day after all, time to celebrate…

I loved this post! I think my favorite slide show picture is the one of his feet at the beach–long socks and sneakers is the quintessential ‘dad’ look–one my own dad sports all the time! And I love it that can see a little of both your parents in your face beautiful face–that just pleases me so much! (And them too, no doubt!)
Crystal Gayle, huh? As long as we are making musical confessions, my record player had ABBA, The Carpenters and various and sundry K-tel compilations stacked underneath! (How do ya like me now???)

A very nice slideshow, a fitting tribute. I loved the wallpaper above the turntable, and what was that poster? Along with the Carpenters, I had Neil Diamond, and checking the grey hair, Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods! “Billy don’t be a hero!” Geez, now its playing in my head.
I will now confess that the poster above the turntable was either for The Hobbit or Lord of The Rings. You see I couldn’t be cool, even if I tried. I totally remember “Billy Don’t Be a Hero” how about “Blue Bayou (Linda Ronstadt maybe?). But you are much too generous about the wallpaper. Thanks for stopping by glad you enjoyed the slideshow. 🙂
I love the slideshow! As I’ve mentioned before, I picked out royal blue shag carpet when I was five and lived with it for the next ten years. It really limits your wallpaper choices too.
And for the record (excuse the unintentional pun), I had Blondie and Madonna buried in that carpet.
Is Blondie not cool? I obviously didn’t get the memo. lol Naturally I had green shag carpeting (urgh) to go with the green leaves on the god awful wallpaper. Ah the seventies… Wait a minute, aren’t you much younger than me? What the heck were you doing with shag carpeting?? 🙂

I always wanted to grow my hair like hers.
Except blonde.
But now that I live in ponytails, I’m kind of glad I didn’t.
Still, I loved loved loved the slide show.
And I’m sorry about that wallpaper.
But I will now warn my kids to pick theirs with future hangovers in mind.
(and also to not grow their hair down to their butts. or try the Scarsdale Diet.)

Did you have a “halloween window painting contest” in your town growing up? Every year you’d be assigned a store window and get to pain something. I do believe I won twice. I remember trying to paint that skeleton for hours. Yes, do warn the children about the wallpaper… Glad you enjoyed seeing ma famille. 🙂
I wouldn’t be so tough on the wallpaper. I am 96% positive Hello Kitty has that same pattern in her room.
